There’s Music In The Ashtray – ddHiFi AS100 HiFi IEM Storage Case Review

ddHiFi AS100 is a $43 USD IEM and Electronics storage solution that is designed to feel and look like a high-end ashtray, offering a central pole for keeping IEMS free of tangling, but also offering enough space for microSD cards, eartips and other miscellaneous items that typically clutter your desk.

Introduction

ddHiFi creates some of the most convenient accessories for audiophiles, some of them being entry-level cases like the one we are reviewing today, but others being cables, even some DACs and they also make the ddHiFi ST-35, the eartips that I use the most for music listening.

As an Amazon Influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases, and using the purchase links in my reviews helps me maintain this website and Youtube Channel. ddHiFi has provided the sample for this review, in exchange for my honest opinion.

Build Quality / Aesthetics

ddHiFi AS100 is a very basic product that appears to be an ordinary Ashtray, but it is a fully metallic storage case to help you organize your desk.

The most surprising part about the AS100 is that you can actually use it as an Ashtray so I suspect that someone at ddHiFi actually is a smoker, because there are three grooves and a cigar holder inside of the AS100.

AS100 has a stackable design that allows you to store multiple units on top of each other, being engineered to align perfectly on top of each other, with a curved top to maximize a seamless design and maximize space efficiency.

Usage / Comfort

At least for me as a reviewer, it is very hard to keep my desk organized, but admittedly I have to simply keep a large number of objects just to provide you with those reviews. Among the organization efforts I’ve been making, I would say that ddHiFi AS100 looks the cleanest and can quickly hide all the eartips, microSD and SD cards as well as a pair of IEMs that I have on my desk at all times.

AS100 is very sturdy, but there is no padding on the inside, so if you place it in a backpack, you may damage the objects inside if they jump around too much. The lid does not click in place or lock in any way, so AS100 is not really designed for portable, it is made to sit on your desk just like an Ashtray that you can use for smoking, or for organizing your desk.

On the linsoul webpage there’s a mention that there might be some clamping marks on the AS100, but as you can see from my photos, and I can visually observe, my units do not seem to have those, or I am not sensitive enough to notice them.

Value and Conclusion

Priced at 43 USD, ddHiFi AS100 is one of the better looking organization methods that you are supposed to keep on your desk instead of hiding away in a drawer. With a thick padding on the bottom, it will not scratch your desk, and the lid helps visually hide what is indie.

At the end of the day, there’s very little to say about AS100, but I liked it so much that I want to get another one just to keep my desk more organized. I gave up smoking over 15 years ago, but it seems that ashtrays may just be making a comeback for the sake of storing small electronics and accessories.

We listened to more songs than those named in this playlist, but those are excellent for identifying a sonic signature.  I recommend trying most of the songs from this playlist, especially if you’re searching for new music! The playlists are different for Spotify, Tidal and Youtube, and based on the songs I enjoy and are available on each!
